Sector 102 - Kelp Pharmacy - Dr. Torga Vale
Dr. Torga Vale: Kelp Pharmacy Sciences Division
Far below the corporate towers and neon arteries of Sector 102, where the Spillways give way to deeper and more dangerous tunnel strata, lies Basecamp Black, a fortified research outpost built at the edge of Level 8. Level 8 is where the tunnels stop behaving like infrastructure. Lifeforms appear that no catalog recognizes. Chemical ecosystems grow in places they shouldn’t. The environment itself begins to change.
Which is why Kelp Pharmacy Sciences Division sent one of its most precise analysts to monitor the descent.
Dr. Torga Vale. She is not a rescuer. She is not a hero. She is the scientist making sure the experiment continues.
Dr. Torga Vale
Title: Level 3 Bio-Systems Analyst
Clearance: Indigo-Tier / Experimental Zone Enabled
Assignment: Scientific Overseer, Basecamp Black
Internal Callsign: Metric
Dr. Vale is a corporate behavioral xenoecologist, tasked with studying the biological anomalies emerging near theLevel 8 interface. Her role is not containment in the traditional sense. It is measurement. Vale tracks ecosystem shifts, organism behavior, mutation vectors, and survival outcomes within the tunnel system. When field teams encounter hostile lifeforms or environmental hazards, she doesn’t rush to extract them. She records. As long as the data stream remains intact, the experiment remains valid. To Vale, Basecamp Black is not a workplace, it’s a laboratory.
Personality
Dr. Vale’s demeanor rarely changes. Calm. Controlled. Analytical. Crew members often describe conversations with her as if they were speaking to a machine running a diagnostic protocol. Her speech is clinical and detached, full of language more suited to a research report than a human conversation:
“Operational redundancy remains intact.”
“Mortality is within acceptable parameters.”
“Vector contamination remains statistically manageable.”
Vale believes deeply in the philosophy of Kelp Pharmacy: that the world can be understood as a series of measurable systems and systems require data. If someone dies during an operation, her only question is simple: Did the outcome improve the dataset? If the answer is yes, then the loss was justified.
Appearance
Dr. Vale carries herself with the quiet authority of someone who knows she outranks nearly everyone in the tunnels. Only 38 years old Dr. Vale carries herself as much older person, though this is easily understandable as prolonged field deployments and experimental exposure has aged her prematurely. Dressed in the kelp green science uniform, reinforced with an environmental jacket and integrated filtration system when needed. The suit’s left arm contains a woven data-sleeve interface, constantly displaying telemetry and environmental data. Behind her ear is a neural bridge for direct system interfacing, and behind the cool, calculating blue eyes are retinal telemetry projecting real-time environmental statistics. Her face appears permanently focused, rarely relaxed, and never surprised.
Duties at Basecamp Black
As Kelp Pharmacy’s appointed overseer, Vale controls nearly every scientific operation near Level 8 and within Basecamp Black.
Bio-System Monitoring: She coordinates tagging and tracking of unknown tunnel lifeforms, maintaining a constantly updated ecological map of the region.
Environmental Metrics: Her sensors measure radiation drift, fungal bloom patterns, atmospheric contamination, and mutation vectors in real time.
Corporate Reporting: Encrypted uplinks connect Vale directly to Kelp Pharmacy’s executive command, allowing her to report anomalies, including staff insubordination.
Pharmaceutical Control: Vale manages access to the Kelp Pharmacy reserves stored in Basecamp’s drone-operated medical bay.
The Black Log: Perhaps most concerning is her private classification ledger. This hidden record contains biological entities marked: “Too useful to terminate.” Some of these organisms are not officially acknowledged by Kelp Pharmacy headquarters.
Secrets
Even by corporate standards, Dr. Vale’s research crosses dangerous lines.
Xenomorphic Drift Project: Vale secretly believes the Spillways ecosystem is evolving a new dominant biological pattern, a hybrid ecological system unlike anything previously recorded. Rather than stopping it, she wants to observe its full maturation.
Elevator Descent Protocol D-99: Vale possesses one of only two biometric authorizations capable of triggering Protocol D-99, an emergency lockdown procedure that: Seals the Level 8 elevator shaft, locks all civilian personnel out of the facility and ventilates entire sections of Basecamp Black. The protocol is designed to prevent biological contamination reaching the surface. It would also kill most of the base’s staff.
Loyalty Experiments: Vale has begun distributing experimental emotional-suppression agents to selected workers disguised as stabilizer treatments. The goal? To measure loyalty and obedience thresholds during high-stress containment scenarios.
The “Non-Viable” Specimen: One organism listed in the black log as terminated is actually still alive. It has been communicating with Vale and she has told no one. It’s location is a secret only she and her personal droids know about.
Equipment
Data Gauntlet: A wrist-mounted command interface linked to every major system in Basecamp Black.
Functions include: Security Droid control, drone surveillance control, environmental telemetry monitoring, and crew biometric tracking. In Vale’s hands, the gauntlet makes the entire base behave like a living data model.
Bio-Wand: A compact scanning device capable of detecting: Biohazard contamination, Hidden life signs and neural irregularities. The device can also deliver short-range electric stun pulses for “containment purposes.”
Kelp Stabilizer Vials: High-grade metabolic regulators derived from deep-processed kelp cultures. Used to prevent mutation, shock and radiation poisoning in field teams. Side effects can occasionally include: Euphoria. disorientation, and vivid hallucinations Vale considers these “statistically irrelevant variables.”
The Final Protocol
If contamination thresholds exceed acceptable limits, Vale will initiate full Basecamp lockdown. She will sacrifice the entire facility to preserve the data and she will consider it a successful experiment, once she returns to the surface.
