Beer Review 180 // Theatre of Madness by Flying Monkey

Hey! Welcome to this week's beer review. A long-overdue review of a Flying Monkey Beer. Let's get into it!

Name: Theatre of Madness
Brewery: Flying Monkey
Style: Pumpkin Lager (!?)
ABV: 6%
Hops: Cascade, Pahto
Special Additions: Pumpkin Puree, Cinnamon, Allspice, Nutmeg, Demerara Sugar, Lactose.
Commercial Fluff:
Don't let the alluring levity of a 6% abv deceive you – the interdimensional energy of this brew is anything but mundane. Fresh, inviting winks of malty sweetness to introduce seductive spice and rich pumpkin in a lager realm that traps you in the madness of the whole performance -- and no one escapes. How could a friendly lager become so fiendish?

Review

The pour on this brew is a dark copper/amber heading towards a brownish shade. The head is off-white, leaning into a warm cream colour. Smells of pumpkin pie spices which shouldn't really surprise anyone. Taste is all spices Cinnamon, Allspice and the classic Nutmeg; the beer is pretty light and well carbonated, making it an okay drink. Unfortunately, the lactose left me with an undesired sweet finish, with a weird tongue texture, and it just lacked pumpkin flavour. This is a fall spice lager. Drop the lactose, and this would be an okay Fall Brew.

Doubt I would repurchase it, but happy to have tried it. Learn more about beer with this: The Oxford Companion to Beer (I get an Amazon kickback)
