Beer Review 105 // Hotbox Coffee Porter by Oskar Blues Brewery

Still working my way through some of my older beer notes and photos. This time I turned to a beer I enjoyed last year on a trip to Vermont, Hotbox Coffee Porter by Oskar Blues Brewery. Let's be honest we all know I love a coffee-infused dark beer, so come on time to drink up.

Details

Name: Hotbox

Style: Porter

Brewery: Oskar Blues Brewery

Country: USA, Texas, Austin.

ABV: 6.5 %

Commercial Fluff: Hotbox Coffee Porter features cold-extracted coffee from Burundian and Ethiopian beans, to give the base porter flavours and aromas of dark plums, chocolate and hints of blueberry.

Own Opinion

Upon cracking the stubby can open to pour into a glass it reveals a very opaque dark brown colour, the head though initially lively shrinks down to what you see in the photo, forming a light brown mocha head. The aromas coming off are like dark chocolate that kind of bittersweet chocolate with a tiny hint of coffee in the background.

Taste is all chocolate malts, gentle milk chocolate and a slight bitterness. The coffee though present blends into that classic roasted malt flavours you find in these darker beers and the final notes you are left with is a medium bitterness.

Overall an okay brew but was hoping for more depth of coffee flavour and bit more of an alcohol bite. Not sure I would go out of my way to find it, but wouldn't regret ordering in a bar.
